In heavily urbanised areas there are many surface water sewers which have connections from foul waste pipes. In some cases it is not easy to locate or remove the offending connections. Very often the result is seen as foaming detergent at the SW outfall.

The HydroSwitch is a system that enables the surface water sewer to discharge into the foul system during dry weather, but closes in wet weather to allow storm flows to pass along the SW sewer as required.
