The Protection of our waterways from foul water spills is an expensive but legal necessity. Legislation demands storage facilities for combined storm water to protect receiving waters such as streams, rivers and lakes.
This problem is enhanced through the removal and development of our green field sites replacing natural drainage areas with urbanised sealed surfaces giving insufficient drainage. These challenges can be overcome through the construction of buffer systems to retain the localized flood water releasing it back and thus replicating the undeveloped natural flows.
A pipe network system usually has a large volume of unused storage capacity due to its original design and construction to carry maximum loads. The HydroStyx discharge brake permits utilisation of this hidden asset. During a storm, the HydroStyx discharge brake allows the pipe capacity to be used as retention volume, the discharge is controlled.
