Hydrok and ETM4 Deliver for Yorkshire Water

Hydrok and ETM4 deliver for Yorkshire Water

During November 2008, Hydrok UK Ltd, specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of CSO screening equipment, were approached by ETM4 regarding three large CSO "fast track" schemes identified by Yorkshire Water to be completed by March 2009. The three sites, all located in the South Leeds area of Yorkshire, were of similar design within existing chambers with limited indirect access and not appropriate for reconstruction. The immediate challenge was to propose and develop a system for installing the Hydrok MecMex mechanically operated CSO screens into the chambers in locations where direct manhole access was not available.

Hydrok working with ETM4 developed a bespoke temporary screen transportation system for each site to safely allow the transportation and installation of the MecMex machines. The largest installation, Wide Lane CSO, required two mechanically cleaned MecMex screens, each weighing 800kg, to deliver screen design overflow figures of 2400 l/sec screening to 6mm in two dimensions. The screens were mounted within a bespoke Hydrok manufactured stainless steel weir assembly to minimise any civil modifications and construction within the chambers.

Wide Lane, Moss Bridge and Ardsley Falls CSO installations were all installed during February and early March 2009 and are to be commissioned prior to the end of March deadline for the client, Yorkshire Water.

All three schemes were successfully delivered to site, installed and are to be commissioned within a 16 week period from initial enquiry to walking away from site.
